High Engagement Ads Now Live on Google Ad Manager

Looking to monetize your engaged audience? Google’s high engagement ads which was in beta for a while is now ready to serve all eligible inventories. High Engagement Ads (HEA) give publishers more control over ad experiences. These ads help boost user-engagement and improve ad performance.

By enabling High Engagement Ads, all the Ad Exchange Buyers and Google Ads will be ale to display

  1. Interstitial Ad skippable no later than 12 seconds.
  2. Rewarded Ads skippable no later than 60 seconds. Once the skip time is reached the user is rewarded.
  3. Exit Steps: Interstitial and Rewarded Ads can have upto three steps to exit.

The high-engagement ads settings is enabled by default for interstitial and rewarded inventories in your app.However, you have the option to toggle it off.

Turn on High Engagement Ads

Google Ad Manager will have high engagement ads enables across all interstitial and rewarded inventory. However, if you only want High Engagement Ads on certain inventories, you can turn it off for the inventories you choose.

In order to ensure the best performance for high engagement ads, publishers should check the following.

  1. In Google Ad Manager for your inventory ensure that the “block non-instream video ads” option is disabled.
  2. Click Inventory and then Inventory Rules. Click “Video Settings”. Here you can add a “New Ad format setting” or select an existing one.
  3. Under “Targeting” you can select the inventory you want to serve high engagement ads on.
  4. Scroll to “High Engagement Ads” and ensure that “Disable high engagement ads” is unchecked. Under “Skippable video,” ensure that “block all skippable video ads” is unchecked and maximum duration is set to 60 seconds or higher. Under “Non-skippable video” ensure that “block all non-skippable video ads” is unchecked and the maximum duration is set to 60 seconds or higher. Click Save.
  5. Double-check that these settings are applied to all inventories you want to run high engagement ads on.

To Turn off High-engagement Ads

  1. In Google Ad Manager, Click Inventory > Inventory Rules.
  2. Select “Video Settings” tab, pick “New ad format setting” or select an existing one. Click “Targeting” select the inventory where you want to stop high-engagement ads.
  3. Scroll down to “High Engagement Ads” and click ”Disable high-engagement ads”. Click Save.
